Charter

Misool Luxury DivingPrivate Dive Charters

Misool luxury diving is a private dive charter inside the Misool Marine Reserve: a purpose-built dive yacht, three to four guided dives a day, nitrox, camera stations and en-suite cabins, on sites such as Magic Mountain and Boo Windows. The season runs October to April. Charters cost from USD 6,400 per yacht, per night, 7-night minimum.

Why Misool is dived from a boat, not a shore

Misool’s dive sites sit on the southern edge of Raja Ampat, inside a marine reserve of roughly 1,200 km² with two no-take zones and a restricted-gear blue-water corridor. Fishing, spearfishing and anchoring on reef are prohibited, and the Misool Ranger Patrol monitors the water continuously. That protection is why the reefs look the way they do. It is also why the sites are spread across islands, pinnacles and passages that no single shore base can reach in one day.

The signature dives are exposed seamounts and limestone pinnacles. Magic Mountain is a manta cleaning station that drops to 40 m. Four Kings is four pinnacles with cross-currents. Boo Windows is a pair of arches that work best near slack tide. Timing each of these to the tide means moving the boat between dives, repositioning overnight and leaving at first light. A dive yacht does this. A day boat does not.

The third reason is what you dive for. Misool’s soft coral, barrel sponges and sea fans grow where current feeds them, and the pelagics follow the same current: reef mantas, oceanic mantas, trevally and sharks. The yacht holds position on the moving water, the tender drops you up-current, and the dive ends on the reef top with the boat waiting. The site-by-site breakdown is in our Misool dive sites guide; the wider reserve rules are in our Misool Marine Reserve explainer.

The sites a private dive charter reaches, in brief

The list below uses verified depth ranges where they exist and rounded ranges where sources differ. Water temperature sits at about 26–28°C across the season. Currents change with the tide on every one of these sites, so the dive guide picks the entry point each morning, not the itinerary.

  • Magic Mountain, 7–40 m. Exposed seamount and the main reef- and oceanic-manta cleaning station in Misool, with sharks and trevally. Moderate-to-strong, variable current. Advanced divers.
  • Boo Windows, 5–30 m. Twin limestone arches, soft corals, schooling fish and the swim-throughs everyone photographs. Moderate-to-strong current, dived near slack tide. Intermediate to advanced.
  • Four Kings, 5–40 m. Four pinnacles under soft coral and fans, dense fish schools, passing pelagics. Moderate-to-strong current with cross-currents. Advanced.
  • Fiabacet, 8–35 m. Pinnacle chain with sea fans, snapper, sweetlips, pygmy seahorses and wobbegongs. Moderate, tide-dependent current. Intermediate.
  • Wayilbatan, 5–35 m. Barrel-sponge gardens and schooling trevally; the current builds when the tide brings the larger fish in. Intermediate.
  • Candy Store, about 5–25 m. Dense soft coral and reef fish; current- and tide-dependent. Intermediate.
  • Nudi Rock, 5–20 m. Macro: nudibranchs, frogfish, ghost pipefish. Usually calm. All levels, and a strong snorkel site.
  • Daram, 3–18 m. Shallow hard-coral gardens and turtles, protected and calm. All levels; the non-diver’s morning.

Manta encounters depend on the month and on cleaning-station activity rather than on luck alone. Our Misool manta season guide covers which months and which sites, and how the itinerary is shaped around them.

Private rates are quoted inside the USD 6,400 to USD 35,000 per yacht, per night frame. Where a length or guest count is marked n/a, the operator has not published it and we do not fill the gap with a guess.

Private dive charter vs dive liveaboard cabin

A private dive charter gives you the yacht, the dive deck and the schedule. The group decides whether Magic Mountain is dived twice, whether the afternoon slot becomes a night dive or a lagoon, and whether the non-divers spend the morning at Daram with the tender. Pricing is per yacht, per night, 7-night minimum, and you fill the cabins with your own people.

A dive liveaboard cabin puts you on a published itinerary with a fixed departure date and a fixed site list, priced per person per night with a shared cabin. You dive the route with a mixed group under the boat’s own briefing standard. It is the right choice for one or two divers, and the right choice when the dates matter more than the route.

The arithmetic matters. At 12 guests, Damai 2 at USD 6,850 per yacht, per night works out to about USD 571 per guest per night, inside the roughly USD 500–1,200 per person per night we budget for luxury shared cabins in Misool (published operator rates vary by season and cabin), with the whole boat yours. Six guests on the same yacht doubles the per-head figure. The full comparison, including what each format excludes, is in cabin or private charter for Misool; shared departures are listed on the Misool luxury liveaboard page.

Sample 7-night Misool luxury diving itinerary

Sorong to central Misool is 90–110 nautical miles, 10–14 hours underway, so the first night is the passage south and the last afternoon is the passage back. That leaves five and a half diving days: about 20 dives at three to four a day, with night dives added on request. Sites are placeholders; the dive guide reorders them around tide and current every morning.

  1. Day 1, Sorong. Board in the afternoon, dive briefing, equipment set-up and nitrox analysis. Depart on the overnight passage to Misool.
  2. Day 2, East Misool. Check dive at Daram or Nudi Rock, then Fiabacet. Three dives, camera workflow settled by dinner.
  3. Day 3, Boo and Candy Store. Boo Windows at slack tide, Candy Store, Wayilbatan. Night dive on request where the anchorage allows.
  4. Day 4, Magic Mountain. Two dives on the cleaning station timed to the current, Four Kings in the afternoon.
  5. Day 5, Fiabacet pinnacles. Fiabacet twice, Farondi’s walls and caves, late-afternoon macro.
  6. Day 6, Return to the seamount. Magic Mountain again for the photographers, Four Kings, Boo Windows in the afternoon light.
  7. Day 7, Last dives and lagoons. Nudi Rock macro, final dive before midday, then the Misool lagoons by tender. Passage north overnight.
  8. Day 8, Sorong. Arrive in the morning, disembark, airport transfer. The last dive was the previous morning; the desk checks the surface interval against your flight time.

Certification levels, currents and safety rules

Magic Mountain, Four Kings and Boo Windows are current dives. Advanced Open Water or equivalent plus logged drift experience is the practical floor for those sites. Nudi Rock, Daram and sheltered Fiabacet are open to newer divers, and a private charter can split the group across both sets with two tenders.

The rules we hold on every dive yacht we book are short. No-decompression diving only. 30 m maximum depth. Reef hook and surface marker buoy carried on exposed sites, with the marker deployed before ascent. Small guided groups with the guide-to-diver ratio set by the dive master, not the guest. Nitrox for repetitive days. No anchoring on reef, mooring buoys only, no collecting, no touching, and no jet skis anywhere in the reserve.

Flying is the one rule the itinerary is built around. The last dive is scheduled the morning before your flight day, so a full night and day pass before you board. Operators apply their training agency’s minimum surface interval before flying after repetitive diving, and our desk will not shorten it to fit a connection. The remaining safety points, from insurance to the nearest chamber, are in Misool luxury safety.

Photographer charters and workshops

Photographers are the reason the camera station exists. Rinse tanks, charging rails and a dry bench are available on the dive-focused yachts above, confirmed per vessel, and on a private charter the schedule bends to the image: the tender goes back to the Boo arch when the sun lines up, Magic Mountain gets a second dive when the mantas are cleaning, and the macro afternoon at Nudi Rock is not cut short for a crossing.

A workshop charter follows the same logic with a leader. Bring your own instructor or ask the desk for an introduction, dive each site twice to shoot wide then macro, and keep one review session an evening in the lounge. Blue Manta and Mermaid II handle the larger group; Damai 1 and Damai 2 suit a smaller circle of twelve. Lighting, lens choices and the sites that reward each are in our Misool underwater photography guide.

Dive charter price frame, inclusions and conservation fee

Private Misool dive charters are priced per yacht, per night, from USD 6,400 to USD 35,000 depending on the vessel, with a 7-night minimum from Sorong. To make that concrete: seven nights on a ten-guest phinisi at the entry rate is USD 44,800 for the whole yacht, about USD 640 per guest per night, with crew, dive guides, chef, all meals and dive equipment included. Where you land in the range depends on the yacht, her capacity and the season.

Included in the charter rate: the whole yacht, crew, dive guides, chef, all meals, tanks, weights, standard dive and snorkel equipment, and Sorong airport transfers. Outside the rate: the Raja Ampat conservation fee, flights to Sorong, premium beverages, crew gratuities, and courses. Nitrox is offered on the dive-focused yachts above; whether it sits inside the rate varies by operator, so we state it on the quote.

The conservation fee is a government tariff, paid per person. The most consistently reported 2026 rate for the marine-park conservation card is IDR 700,000 (about USD 40) for foreign visitors, valid for 12 months. Conflicting 2026 figures exist, so confirm the current tariff with the Raja Ampat Marine Park Authority before payment; we do that on your behalf before departure. Details are in Misool and Raja Ampat permit fees.

Misool luxury diving FAQ

How many dives are included on a luxury Misool liveaboard?

Dive-focused yachts run three to four guided dives a day, with night dives on request. Over a 7-night itinerary that is about 20 dives once the Sorong passages are taken out. On a private charter the count is yours to set; on a shared-cabin departure the boat’s published schedule applies and extra dives are not usually added.

What is the price of a private Misool dive charter per night in USD?

Private Raja Ampat charters run from USD 6,400 to USD 35,000 per yacht, per night, 7-night minimum from Sorong. Seven nights on a ten-guest phinisi at the entry rate is USD 44,800 for the whole yacht, about USD 640 per guest per night. The final figure is set by the desk once the yacht, dates and guest count are known.

Can I fly home immediately after diving in Misool?

No. Every itinerary we book places the last dive the morning before the flight day, so a full night and day pass before you board. Operators apply their training agency’s minimum surface interval before flying after repetitive diving, and the Sorong arrival on day 8 already sits inside that window.

Which Misool dive sites have the strongest currents?

Magic Mountain, Four Kings and Boo Windows. Magic Mountain is an exposed seamount with variable, moderate-to-strong current. Four Kings adds cross-currents between its pinnacles. Boo Windows is dived near slack tide for that reason. All three are advanced sites; Nudi Rock and Daram are the calm alternatives on the same day.

Which Misool dive sites are best for soft corals and photographers?

Boo Windows and Candy Store for wide-angle soft coral, Four Kings and Fiabacet for fans and schooling fish, Wayilbatan for barrel sponges, Magic Mountain for mantas, Nudi Rock for macro. Soft coral grows where the current feeds it, so the best colour is on the exposed sites, timed to the tide by the dive guide.

How long is the boat journey from Sorong to Misool?

About 90–110 nautical miles, or 10–14 hours underway at liveaboard speed, normally run as an overnight passage so you wake up at the first site. Exact time depends on the anchorage and routing. Flights arrive at Sorong (SOQ); a hotel in Sorong the night before departure is the usual way to protect the boarding time.
