Why a yacht under 35 m suits couples and small families
A boutique phinisi removes the parts of a large yacht that a couple or one family never uses. There is no second group to share the tender with, no dining room sized for eighteen, no corridor of cabins you will never open. The whole vessel is yours, and the crew works for one table.
The smaller hull also changes where you can anchor. Misool is a maze of limestone islets and narrow channels, and a boutique yacht can tuck closer to the karst walls and inside sheltered lagoons where a 50 m vessel has to stay outside and send a tender in. Mornings start in the quiet water, not in the open bay.
Dining follows the same logic. The chef cooks for one table, so menus are set in conversation each morning rather than fixed for a dozen strangers. If you want grilled fish on the foredeck at sunset, that is a request, not a special event. This is the band we recommend for a Misool honeymoon on a private yacht and for families with children who want one shared deck.
The Misool boutique phinisi charter fleet compared
Twelve yachts under 35 m sail Misool with our charter desk. Cabin counts and guest numbers below are taken from the vessel catalog. Where a 2026 rate sits inside the Raja Ampat private canon it is shown per yacht, per night, plus 11% VAT. Where a yacht prices differently, the rate is on request and the desk quotes once dates and guest numbers are known. Larger vessels such as Lamima, Prana by Atzaró and Amandira belong to the Misool superyacht band, not this page.

Cabins, decks and privacy compared
Under 35 m, the real differences are not in length. They are in how the cabins are cut and how many decks you have to spread out on. A three-cabin yacht gives each couple a full-width space. A five- or seven-cabin yacht of the same length trades cabin size for guest count. Decide which matters more before you look at rates.
| Yacht | Length | Cabins | Guests | Best suited to |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Senja | not stated | 2 | 4 | One or two couples, maximum privacy |
| Dewata | 33 m | 3 | 6 | One family, larger cabins |
| The Oracle | 35 m | 3 | 6 | Three couples, generous deck space |
| Mischief | 30 m | 3 | 6 | Three couples, wooden interior |
| Wellenreng | 25 m | 3 | on request | Small party, ironwood and teak |
| Anne Bonny | not stated | 3 | 9 | Family with children sharing |
| Magia II | 26 m | 4 | 10 | Two families on a compact hull |
| Rascal | 30 m | 5 | 10 | Friends group, five equal cabins |
| Jakare | 35 m | 5 | 10 | Friends group, more deck |
| Calico Jack | 30 m | 5 | 10 | Sailing enthusiasts |
| Lady Denok | 28 m | 7 | 12 | Cabin bookings, shared trips |
| La Galigo | 33 m | 7 | 14 | Largest group in the band |
For couples, Senja, Dewata, Mischief and The Oracle keep the ratio of deck to people highest. For a friends group of ten, Rascal, Jakare, Magia II and Calico Jack give everyone a cabin without moving up to the 35 to 50 m class. If your group is larger than fourteen, read the Misool phinisi charter page for 35 to 50 m yachts instead.
Entry-band pricing and a 7-night total for 2, 6 and 10 guests
Private Raja Ampat charters are priced per yacht, per night, from USD 6,400 to USD 35,000 depending on the vessel, with a 7-night minimum from Sorong. Boutique yachts sit at the bottom of that range. The rate covers the whole vessel, not a cabin, which is why the per-person figure changes so much with group size.
| Guests on board | 7 nights at the entry rate (USD 6,400 per yacht, per night) | Per person, per night |
|---|---|---|
| 2 guests | USD 44,800 for the whole yacht | about USD 3,200 per person per night |
| 6 guests | USD 44,800 for the whole yacht | about USD 1,067 per person per night |
| 10 guests | USD 44,800 for the whole yacht | about USD 640 per person per night |
The figures above are before 11% VAT and before the yacht-specific rate is confirmed. Rascal, Mischief, Magia II and The Oracle carry published 2026 rates above the entry band; the others are quoted once the desk knows your dates and numbers. The charter rate includes the full yacht, crew, chef, all meals, snorkeling and basic dive equipment, and Sorong airport transfers. It excludes Raja Ampat conservation fees, which are charged per person by the government, flights to Sorong, premium alcohol, crew gratuities and nitrox or courses if requested. A full breakdown is on the Misool luxury cost page.
Routes a boutique yacht does best: lagoons, Balbulol, Boo Windows, Tomolol
A yacht under 35 m earns its keep in southern Misool, where the karst is tightest. Balbulol is the classic anchorage: limestone towers, still lagoons and reef on the doorstep, reached by liveaboard and then by tender for shore landings and shallow reef stops. Our guide to Balbulol lagoon by private yacht covers the approach and the tidal timing.
Wayil, often called Love Lagoon, is a sheltered turquoise basin among the islets with a short climb to a viewpoint. Boats anchor outside and the tender goes in, so a small yacht that can anchor close saves time and keeps the lagoon quiet. Harfat Jaya adds a steep hilltop hike over the same karst field; take a local guide and stay on the trail.
Tomolol cave holds prehistoric red rock art, hand stencils and animal figures, viewed from the tender at the entrance or inside with a local guide. Estimates of its age conflict, so we do not quote one. Do not touch or wet the paintings. Lenmakana, the jellyfish lake, is a surface-snorkel only visit with no fins, no scuba and no sunscreen; visitor numbers and time may be managed.
For diving, Boo Windows sits at 5 to 30 m with twin limestone arches and soft coral, best dived near slack tide because current runs moderate to strong. Nudi Rock, 5 to 20 m, is the calm macro site for nudibranchs, frogfish and ghost pipefish. Daram, 3 to 18 m, is the snorkeling choice with hard-coral gardens and turtles. Water sits at 26 to 28 degrees Celsius most of the season. The Misool luxury diving page lists the deeper seamounts for advanced divers.
Sea-keeping on the Sorong to Misool crossing
Every Misool charter starts with a crossing. Sorong to the Misool anchorages is roughly 90 to 110 nautical miles, which at a phinisi cruising speed of 8 to 10 knots means 9 to 14 hours under way. In practice the crew plan it as an overnight passage of 10 to 14 hours: board in the afternoon, dine at anchor, and wake up among the karst. Yellu and Balbulol are different points, so the leg varies by 10 to 20 nautical miles depending on the first anchorage.
A 25 to 35 m wooden hull moves more than a 50 m one in open water. Most guests sleep through it, but if anyone is prone to motion sickness, ask for a lower, central cabin for the crossing night and keep the first evening light. The crew choose the departure hour around the forecast, and in the October to April season the crossing is usually calm. Outside that window, Misool availability is operator-dependent and the desk says so before quoting.
The crossing is also why a 7-night minimum exists. Two of those nights are spent on passage. Five full days in Misool is the shortest charter that feels unhurried; ten nights allows a slower pace or a second area. The Misool luxury tour page shows how the days fall across a week.
Dates that go first
The main season runs October to April, when visibility and sea state are most consistently favorable. Within it, the year-end weeks and the clear weather of the early months are requested first. Because a season holds a limited number of 7-night slots per yacht, a specific vessel on specific dates is a narrow target. Flexibility of two or three days on either end usually opens a yacht that a fixed date closes.
Flights set the rhythm. Jakarta to Sorong is a 6 to 8 hour journey with Garuda Indonesia and Batik Air. Direct Bali to Sorong flights are scheduled to resume on 25 October 2026 with Garuda Indonesia through March 2027, about 4 hours, though the exact airline and frequency should be confirmed in the booking system. Most guests spend the night before departure in Sorong. Our notes on how to get to Misool and the best time for a Misool charter cover both in detail, and the Misool luxury yacht charter overview shows the boutique band next to the two larger ones.
How much does a boutique phinisi cost for a Misool charter in 2026?
The private Raja Ampat canon starts at USD 6,400 per yacht, per night, with a 7-night minimum from Sorong, and boutique yachts under 35 m are the entry band. Published 2026 rates in this band run from USD 6,500 for The Oracle to USD 12,000 for Rascal, plus 11% VAT. Other boutique yachts are quoted on request once dates and guest numbers are known.
What will a Misool boutique phinisi charter cost in 2027?
Rates for 2027 are set by each yacht and confirmed by the charter desk, and USD 6,400 per yacht, per night with a 7-night minimum remains the floor the desk applies. For planning, use the 2026 figure of the yacht you prefer and expect the desk to confirm any change once the 2027 season is released. Fixed quotes for 2027 come with the vessel, dates and guest count.
Which Misool yacht is best for couples?
Senja, with two cabins, is the clearest fit for a couple or two couples who want the whole yacht. Dewata, Mischief and The Oracle, each with three cabins, give three couples full-width cabins and a long deck. The deciding factor is the ratio of deck to people, which is highest on these four. The honeymoon page sets out routing for a couple sailing alone.
Which yacht offers the best cabins for diving in Misool?
For divers, a cabin count that matches the dive group matters more than the finish. Rascal, Jakare and Calico Jack carry five cabins and ten guests, so a dive group of ten travels without doubling up. Mischief and The Oracle carry three larger cabins for six divers who want space for camera gear. Dive guides, tanks and weights for Boo Windows and Nudi Rock are confirmed per yacht before you hold dates.
What is the minimum number of nights for a private Misool yacht charter?
Seven nights, from Sorong and back to Sorong. The crossing to Misool is 90 to 110 nautical miles each way, an overnight passage of 10 to 14 hours, so two nights of a 7-night charter are spent under way. Five full days in Misool is the shortest charter that feels unhurried. Ten nights allows a second Misool area or a slower pace.
Should we book a cabin or charter the whole yacht in Misool?
Charter the whole yacht if you are a couple, a family or a group of six to ten who want one table and one itinerary. At ten guests the entry rate works out at about USD 640 per person per night before VAT. Book a cabin on a shared departure if you travel as two or three people and prefer a fixed route. Our cabin versus private charter comparison sets out both.
